Welcome to Wild Food Illinois

My lovely wife has been encouraging me to start a blog. Over the last few days I've been reading about wildcrafting and foraging, and have decided to give it a try. This afternoon I plan on traipsing around some of the public spaces in my little city doing some recon, with material for harvesting in case I stumble upon something good. Hopefully I'll find some local sources for fruits and berries over the next couple of weeks. Although it's getting a little late in the season, a few fruits (blackberries, mulberries, wild grapes, and plums in particular) ought to be ripening about now.

So welcome one and all - I'd love to here from other would-be foragers, especially in the Great Lakes region. Check back later today for a report from the field. If I find anything I'll post a few pictures.
